HIROSAKI , a See also:

town of See also:Japan in the See also:province of Michmoku or Rikuchiu, See also:north Nippon, 22 M. S.W. of Aomori by See also:rail. Pop. about 37,000. The See also:fine isolated See also:cone of Iwakisan, a See also:mountain of See also:pilgrimage, rises to the See also:west. Hirosaki is a very old See also:place, formerly See also:residence of a See also:great daimio (or daimyo) and See also:capital of a vast principality, and still the seat of a high See also:court with See also:jurisdiction over the surrounding districts of Aomori and Akita. Like most places in north Nippon, it is built with continuous verandas extending from See also:house to house, and affording a See also:promenade completely sheltered from the snows of See also:winter. Apples of fine flavour grow in the See also:district, which also enjoys some reputation for its See also:peculiar See also:green See also:lacquer-See also:ware.
