KARL See also:

HESS (1801–1874) , the third son of Karl Christoph Hess, See also:born at See also:Dusseldorf, was also taught by his See also:father, who hoped that he would obtain distinction as an engraver. Karl, however, after See also:engraving one See also:plate after See also:Adrian See also:Ostade, turned to See also:painting under the guidance of Wagenbauer of See also:Munich, and then studied under his See also:elder See also:brother See also:Peter. But See also:historical See also:composition proved to be as contrary to his See also:taste as engraving, and he gave himself exclusively at last to illustrations of See also:peasant See also:life in the See also:hill See also:country of See also:Bavaria. He became See also:clever alike in representing the See also:people, the animals and the landscape of the See also:Alps, and with See also:constant means of reference to nature in the neighbourhood of See also:Reichenhall, where he at last resided, he never produced anything that was not impressed with the true See also:stamp of a kindly See also:realism. Some of his pictures in the museum of Munich will serve as examples of his manner. He died at Reichenhall on the 16th of See also:November 1874.
