KASHAN , a small See also:province of See also:Persia, situated between See also:Isfahan and See also:Kum. It is divided into the two districts germsir, the " warm," and sardsir, the " See also:cold," the former with the See also:city of Kashan in the plains, the latter in the hills. It has a See also:population of 75,000 to 8o,000, and pays a yearly See also:revenue of about £i8,000. KASHAN (Cashan) is the provincial See also:capital, in 34° 0' N. and 51° 27' E., at an See also:elevation of 3190 ft., 150 M. from See also:Teheran; pop. 35,000, including a few See also:hundred See also:Jews occupied as See also:silk-winders, and a few Zoroastrians engaged in See also:trade. See also:Great quantities of silk stuffs, from raw material imported from See also:Gilan, and See also:copper utensils are manufactured at Kashan and sent to all parts of Persia. Kashan also exports See also:rose-See also:water made in villages in the hilly districts about 20 M. from the city, and is the only See also:place in Persia where See also:cobalt can be obtained, from the mine at Kamsar, 19 m. to the See also:south. At the See also:foot of the hills 4 m. W. of the city are the beautiful gardens of Fin, the See also:scene of the See also:official See also:murder, on the 9th of See also:January 1852, of Mirza Taki See also:Khan, See also:Amir See also:Nizam, the See also:grand See also:vizier, one of the ablest ministers that Persia has had in See also:modern times.
