LAHR , a See also:town in the See also:grand-duchy of See also:Baden, on the Schutter, about 9 m. S. of See also:Offenburg, and on the railway Dinglingen-Lahr. Pop. (1900) 13,577. One of the busiest towns in Baden, it carries on manufactures of See also:tobacco and cigars, woollen goods, See also:chicory, See also:leather, pasteboard, hats and numerous other articles, has considerable See also:trade in See also:wine, while among its other See also:industries are See also:printing and See also:lithography. Lahr first appears as a town in 1278, and after several vicissitudes it passed wholly to Baden in 1803.
