town of See also:north-western See also:France, in the See also:department of See also:Cotes-du-See also:Nord, on the Gouessant 13 M. E.S.E. of St Brieuc by See also:rail. Pop. (1906) 4347. Crowning the See also:eminence on which the town is built is a beautiful See also:Gothic See also:church (13th and 14th centuries), once the See also:chapel of the See also:castle of the See also:counts of Penthievre. La Noue, the famous Huguenot See also:leader, was mortally wounded in 1591 in the See also:siege of the castle, which was dismantled in 1626 by See also:Richelieu. Of the other buildings, the church of St See also:Martin (11th, 15th and 16th centuries) is the See also:chief. Lamballe has an important tiaras (See also:depot for stallions) and carries on See also:trade in See also:grain, tanning and See also:leather-dressing; earthenware is manufactured in the environs. Lamballe was the See also:capital of the territory of the counts of Penthievre, who in 1569 were made See also:dukes.
