LARKHANA , a See also:town and See also:district of See also:British See also:India, in See also:Sind, Bombay. The town is on a See also:canal not far from the See also:Indus, and has a station on the See also:North-Western railway, 281 M. N. by E. of See also:Karachi. It is pleasantly situated in a fertile locality, and is well laid out with wide streets and spacious gardens. It is a centre of See also:trade, with manufactures of See also:cotton, See also:silk, See also:leather, See also:metal-See also:ware and See also:paper. Pop. (1901) 14,543. Av. The DISTRICT OF LARKHANA, lying along the right See also:bank of the Indus, was formed out of portions of See also:Sukkur and Karachi districts in Igor, and has an See also:area of 5091 sq. m.; pop. (1901) 656,083, showing an increase of ro% in the See also:decade. Its western See also:part is mountainous, but the See also:remainder is a See also:plain of See also:alluvium watered by canals and well cultivated, being the most fertile part of Sind. The See also:staple See also:grain-crops are See also:rice, See also:wheat and millets, which are exported, together with See also:wool, cotton and other agricultural produce. Cotton See also:cloth, carpets, See also:salt and leather goods are manufactured, and See also:dyeing is an important See also:industry. The district is served by the North-Western railway.
