LEGNAGO , a fortified See also:

town of See also:Venetia, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Verona, on the See also:Adige, 29 m. by See also:rail E. of See also:Mantua, 52 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1906) 2731 (town), 17,000 (See also:commune). Legnago is one of the famous See also:Quadrilateral fortresses. The See also:present fortifications were planned and made in 1815, the older defences having been destroyed by See also:Napoleon I. in 18o1. The situation is See also:low and unhealthy, but the territory is fertile, See also:rice, cereals and See also:sugar being grown. Legnago is the birthplace of G. B. Cavalcaselle, the See also:art historian (1827-1897). A See also:branch See also:line runs hence to See also:Rovigo.
