MANFREDONIA , a See also:town and archiepiscopal see (with Viesti) of See also:Apulia, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Foggia, from which it is 22a M. N.E. by See also:rail, situated on the See also:coast, facing E., 13 ft. above See also:sea-level, to- the See also:south of See also:Monte See also:Gargano, and giving its name to the gulf to the See also:east of it. Pop. (1901), 11,549. It was founded by See also:Manfred in 1263, and destroyed by the See also:Turks in 162o; but the See also:medieval See also:castle of the Angevins and parts of the town walls are well preserved.
