MANZANARES , a See also:

town of See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Ciudad Real, on the See also:river Azuer, a large sub-tributary of the Zancara, and on the See also:railways from See also:Madrid to Ciudad Real and See also:Linares. Pop. (Iwo), 11,229. Manzanares is one of the See also:chief towns of La See also:Mancha, and thus in the centre of the See also:district described by Cervantes in See also:Don Quixote. Its citadel was founded as a See also:Christian fortress after the defeat of the See also:Moors at See also:Las Navas de Tolosa (1212). See also:Bull-fights were formerly held in the See also:main plaza, where galleries to accommodate spectators were built between the buttresses of an See also:ancient See also:parish See also:church. Manzanares has manufactures of See also:soap, bricks and pottery, and an active See also:trade in See also:wheat, See also:wine, See also:spirits, aniseed and See also:saffron.
