MURPHYSBORO , a See also:

city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Jackson county, See also:Illinois, U.S.A., in the See also:south See also:part of the See also:state, on the Big Muddy See also:River, about 57 M. N. of See also:Cairo. Pop. (189o), 388o; (1900), 6463, including 557 See also:foreign-See also:born and 456 negroes; (1910), 7485. It is served by the IIlinois Central, the See also:Mobile & See also:Ohio and the St See also:Louis, See also:Iron See also:Mountain & See also:Southern See also:railways. It is the centre for a farming region, in which there are deposits of See also:coal, iron, See also:lead and shale, and there are various manufactures in the city. Murphysboro was incorporated in 1867, and re-incorporated in 1875.
