PYRITZ , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Pomerania, 16 m. S.W. of See also:Stargard by the railway to Ciistrin. Pop. (1905), 8600. It is still surrounded by walls with towers, and has two Evangelical churches. There are small manufactures of machinery, bricks and See also:sugar. Excellent See also:wheat is grown in the vicinity, while another See also:industry is the breeding of See also:cattle. Near the town is a See also:fountain, erected to See also:mark the See also:spring in which See also:Otto, See also:bishop of See also:Bamberg, baptized the first Pomeranian converts to See also:Christianity in 1124. Pyritz became a town in 1150.
