RAICHUR , a See also:

town of See also:India, in the See also:state of See also:Hyderabad, at the junction of the See also:Madras and See also:Great See also:Indian See also:Peninsula See also:railways, 351 M. N.E. from Madras. Pop. (1901) 22,165. It gives its name to the See also:doab, or See also:tract between the See also:rivers See also:Kistna and See also:Tungabhadra, which was the See also:scene of much fighting between Mahommedans and See also:Hindus as debatable See also:land during the 16th See also:century. It contains a well-preserved fort and two old mosques. It is a thriving centre of See also:trade, with several See also:cotton-presses.
