After the usual course of training he became a member of the See also:Academy in 1717 as an See also:historical painter. His reputation had been previously established by the See also:credit of decorations executed during his three years in See also:Italy on the See also:palace of See also:Giustiniani Solini at See also:Venice, and by some easel paintings, the Four Ages of See also:Man (See also:National See also:Gallery), commissioned by the See also:grand See also:prior of See also:Vendome. To this latter class of subject Raoux devoted himself, nor did he even paint portraits except in See also:character. The See also:list of his See also:works is a See also:long See also:series of sets of the Seasons, of the See also:Hours, of the Elements, or of those scenes of amusement and gallantry in the See also:representation of which he was immeasurably surpassed by his younger See also:rival See also:Watteau. After his stay in See also:England (1720) he lived much in the See also:Temple, where he decorated several rooms. He died in See also:Paris in 1734. His best pupils were See also:Chevalier and See also:Montdidier. His works, of which there is a poor specimen in the Louvre, were much engraved by Poilly, Moyreau, See also:Dupuis, &c.
