CHEVALIER, See also:ALBERT (1861– ) , See also:English comedian, began a connexion with the See also:stage while still a See also:child. In 1877 he was engaged as an actor under the Bancrofts in See also:London, and for some years played " legitimate " parts at the See also:Court See also:theatre and elsewhere. In 1891, however, he began a successful See also:music-See also:hall career as a See also:singer of coster songs of his own invention, a new type in which he had an immediate success, both in See also:England and See also:America. He subsequently organized an entertainment of his own, with sketches and songs, with which he went on tour, establishing a wide popularity as an See also:original artist in his See also:special See also:line.
