Pop. of See also:urban See also:district (1901) 5558• It lies on a headstream of the small See also:river Wheelock, a tributary of the See also:Weaver. The See also:parish See also:church of St See also:Mary is Perpendicular, with a See also:fine carved roof of the 17th See also:century. A few old timbered houses, of the same See also:period, remain. In the market-See also:place are two remarkable crosses covered with See also:rude carvings, and assigned by some to the 7th century, being similar to those at Monasterboice and elsewhere in See also:Ireland. There are See also:boot and See also:shoe factories, chemical See also:works and a manufactory of fustians, with See also:salt-works and See also:iron-works in the adjacent township of Wheelock.
