In 1785 he was commissioned in the artillery, in which he served as a regimental officer for fifteen years. In 1800 he won greatcredit both by his exertions in bringing the artillery of the See also:Army of Reserve over the See also:Alps and by his handling of guns in the See also:battle of See also:Marengo. In ,8o6, as a general of See also:brigade, and See also:commander of the artillery of an army See also:corps, he took See also:part in the See also:Jena and See also:Eylau See also:campaigns. But he is remembered chiefly in connexion with the " caseshot attack " which was the central feature of See also:Napoleon's matured See also:tactical. See also:system, and which Senarmont put into See also:execution for the first See also:time at See also:Friedland (q.v.). For this feat he was made a See also:baron, and in 18o8 he was promoted general of See also:division by Napoleon on the See also:field of battle in front of See also:Madrid. He was killed at the See also:siege of See also:Cadiz on the 26th of See also:October 181o.
