SODERTELGE , a See also:

town of See also:Sweden, in the See also:district (lan) of See also:Stockholm, 23 in. W.S.W. of Stockholm by See also:rail. Pop. (1900), 8,207. It is beautifully situated on a See also:bay of See also:Lake See also:Malar, which is here connected with the Baltic by the Sodertelge See also:canal, 14 In. in length, with a minimum See also:depth of Io ft. This is, on the route followed by the See also:Gota Canal steamers between Stockholm and See also:Gothenburg,: it was opened in 1819, though a canal was begun here in the first See also:half of the 15th See also:century at the instigation of the patriot Engelbrecht. The town contains an See also:ancient See also:church, believed to date from c.rroo. Here and in the neighbourhood are the residences of many of the business class of Stockholm; and the town is in favour as a summer resort, having See also:mineral springs and See also:baths. There are See also:engineering shops producing railway stock and See also:motors, jute See also:spinning and See also:weaving See also:mills, and match and See also:joinery See also:works.
