TARENTUM , a See also:

borough of See also:Allegheny See also:county, See also:Pennsylvania, U.S.A., on the Allegheny See also:river, about 20 M. N.E. of See also:Pittsburg. Pop. (1890) 4627; (1900) 5472 (1173 being See also:foreign-See also:born); (1910) 7414. Tarentum is served by the Pennsylvania railway and by an electric See also:line connecting with Pittsburg. Among manufactures- are See also:plate See also:glass and bottles, table See also:ware, See also:paper, bricks, See also:iron and See also:steel articles, and steel sheets and billets. See also:Coal See also:mining is an important See also:industry, and the borough is supplied with natural See also:gas. Tarentum was first settled in 1796, was laid out in 1829 at the direction of See also:Henry See also:Marie Brackenridge (1786-1871),2 who by See also:marriage had come into See also:possession of the site, and it was incorporated as a borough in 1842. The first glass manufactory was established in 1872.
