N.E. of Madras See also:city. Pop. (1901), 15,485. It is famous for a See also:temple on the neighbouring See also:hill of Tirumala, 2500 ft. above the See also:sea, which is one of the most frequented places of See also:pilgrimage in See also:southern India. The town contains numerous temples connected with the See also:shrine of Tirumala, and is noted for its See also:brass-See also:work and See also:wood-See also:carving.
