TROGEN , a neat and clean little See also:

town in the Ausser Rhoden See also:half of the Swiss See also:canton of See also:Appenzell. By See also:light railway it is 6 m. from St See also:Gall, or by See also:carriage road 7 M. from Heiden (the See also:chief goats' whey cure resort in the canton), or 9 m. from Altstatten in the See also:Rhine valley. It is built on the See also:side of a steepish See also:hill, and in 1900 had 2496 inhabitants, mostly See also:Protestant and See also:German-speaking. In the square before the See also:parish See also:church the Landsgeneinde or See also:primitive democratic See also:assembly of Ausser Rhoden meets in the even years (in other years at Hundwil, not far from See also:Herisau) on the last See also:Sunday in See also:April. Like other towns in Appenzell, Trogen is engaged in the manufacture (in the houses of the workpeople) of See also:embroidery and muslins.
