N.E. of See also:Vienna by See also:rail. Pop. (190o), 26,725. It is situated on the Oppa See also:river, See also:close to the Prussian frontier, and is a well-built See also:town with extensive suburbs. The See also:industries comprise the manufacture of See also:cloth, See also:industrial See also:machines, See also:sugar-refining, jute fabrics and See also:brewing. Troppau was founded in the 13th See also:century; but almost its only claim to See also:historical mention is the fact that in 182o the monarchs of See also:Austria, See also:Russia and See also:Prussia met here to deliberate on the tendencies of the Neapolitan revolution. This See also:congress of Troppau, however, See also:left nearly the whole See also:matter to be considered and decided at See also:Laibach. The former principality of Troppau is now divided between Austria and Prussia, the latter holding the See also:lion's See also:share.
