island of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Pomerania, lying off the Baltic See also:coast, and separated by the See also:Swine from the island of See also:Wollin, which together with it divides the Stettiner Haff from the open See also:sea. It is 31 in. in length. T3 broad and 16o sq. m. in See also:area. The See also:surface is generally See also:flat (only a few See also:sand-hills rising to any height) and is diversified by See also:moor, fen, lakes and See also:forest. See also:Agriculture, See also:cattle-rearing, fishing and other maritime pursuits are the See also:chief occupations of the inhabitants. See also:Swinemunde and Usedom (pop. 1700) are the chief towns, and See also:Heringsdorf, Ahlbeck and Zinnowitz are frequented watering-places. Pop. (1900) 33,000.
