WAVELLITE , a See also:

mineral consisting of hydrated See also:aluminium phosphate, A13(OH)3(PO4)2 + 4aH2O, crystallizing in the orthorhombic See also:system. Distinct crystals are of rare occurrence, the mineral usually taking the See also:form of hemispherical or globular aggregates with an See also:internal radiated structure. It is translucent and varies in See also:colour from See also:grey or See also:white to greenish, yellowish, &c. The hardness is 31f and the specific gravity 2.32. It was first found, at the end of the 18th See also:century, by Dr W. Wavell near See also:Barnstaple in See also:Devonshire, where it lines crevices in a See also:black slaty See also:rock. It has also been found in See also:Ireland (See also:Tipperary and See also:Cork), See also:Arkansas, &c. (L. J.
