WAVERLY , a See also:

village of Tioga See also:county, New See also:York, U.S.A., about 18 m. S.E. of See also:Elmira, on the Cayuta See also:Creek, near the Chemung and the Susquehanna See also:rivers, which unite several See also:miles S. of the village. Pop. (1890) 4123; (1900) 4465, of whom 295 were See also:foreign-See also:born; (1905) 4915; (1910) 4855. It is served by the See also:Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, the See also:Erie and the Lehigh Valley See also:railways. With See also:South Waverly (pop. in 1.910 ro84)—separated from Waverly only by the See also:state See also:line and really a See also:part of the village—See also:Sayre, and See also:Athens, See also:Pennsylvania, it is connected by electric railway and the three See also:form practically an See also:industrial unit. Waverly is also connected by electric line with Elmira. The village is a railway centre of some importance, distributes See also:coal from the See also:Wyoming Valley mines, and See also:ships the See also:dairy products of a large farming See also:district and small fruits and See also:garden products. Waverly was settled about 1804 by settlers from See also:Connecticut and the See also:Hudson See also:River Valley, and was incorporated as a village in 1854.
