After a See also:long experience with various See also:bookselling firms, he began business on his own See also:account as a theological publisher. In See also:January 1858 he started the See also:Book-seller, and for 1869 published the first issue of Whitaker's Almanack, the See also:annual See also:work of reference, which also met with immediate success. In 1874 he published the first edition of the Reference See also:Catalogue of Current Literature, of which several See also:editions have since appeared. Whitaker died at See also:Enfield on the 15th of May 1895. He had been the See also:father of fifteen See also:children.
