WILLEMS, FLORENT See also:JOSEPH See also:MARIE (1823–1905) , Belgian painter, was See also:born at See also:Liege on the 8th of See also:January 1823. ' He had no See also:regular tuition in See also:painting, but learnt by copying and restoring old pictures at See also:Malines, where he lived from 1832. He made his debut at the See also:Brussels See also:Salon in 1842 with a " See also:Music Party " and an "Interior of a 17th-See also:century Guard-See also:room" in the See also:style of Terburg and See also:Metsu. Soon afterwards he settled in See also:Paris, where his pictures enjoyed considerable popularity under the second See also:empire. Among his most famous See also:works may be mentioned " The See also:Wedding See also:Dress " (Brussels See also:Gallery), " La Fete See also:des grands-parents" (Brussels Gallery), " Le Baise-See also:main " (Mme. Cardon's collection, Brussels), " Farewell " (Willems See also:coll., Brussels), " The See also:Arches of the See also:Peace " (Delahaye coll., See also:Antwerp) and " The Widow " (engraved by Desvachez). He died at Neuilly-sur-See also:Seine on the 23rd of See also:October 1905.
