Samuel Norton was the great-grandson of the famous 15th century English alchemist Thomas Norton, author of the Ordinall of alchemy. This Key was written to be presented to Queen Elizabeth, and directly addresses her. It presents a simple outline of the various aspects of alchemy available at the time and essentially wishes to establish alchemy as a valid intellectual and practical discipline.
