     Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks Series
This series of limited edition hand-bound books by Adam McLean were initially produced between 1979 and 1986. They were never sold through book dealers, but only by direct mail order. Consequently, these books became collectors items, often fetching high prices on the second-hand market. Only a few copies remain of some of the older titles in this series and a number are now entirely sold out. Since 1997 fourteen new titles have been issued with more in preparation.

No. 37. Bonacina. The Preparation of Potable Gold
Translated with an introduction by Paul Ferguson

This rather obscure early 17th century work exists as a printed book and a number of manuscripts with a wonderful series of coloured illustrations. While researching for his translation Paul Ferguson uncovered some new manuscripts and, it appears, the only surviving examplar of a printed edition. The illustrations for this present edition are facsimile paintings made by Adam McLean from the images in the most beautifully painted manuscript.
Although of Italian origin, Bonacina, seems to have based himself during the early decades of the 17th century in South Moravia, and wrote this work around 1616. He deals with the potable or drinkable gold, an alchemical medical preparation or panacea, much sought after at that time.

Limited edition of 200 signed and numbered hardbound copies. 11 coloured illustrations. A5. 83 pages.
