     Magnum Opus Hermetic Sourceworks Series
This series of limited edition hand-bound books by Adam McLean were initially produced between 1979 and 1986. They were never sold through book dealers, but only by direct mail order. Consequently, these books became collectors items, often fetching high prices on the second-hand market. Only a few copies remain of some of the older titles in this series and a number are now entirely sold out. Since 1997 fourteen new titles have been issued with more in preparation.

No. 6. The Rosary of the Philosophers
Special coloured edition

A new edition of the Rosarium philosophorum originally published in the Magnum Opus series in 1980 but long out of print. This is one of the key early printed books on alchemy, and is a very important summary of many of the ideas current in 15th and early 16th century alchemy.
For this edition my 1980 transcription of manuscript Ferguson 210 held in Glasgow University Library, has been extensively reworked to make the text more readable, by modernising the English, attempting to normalise the capitalisation, clearing up punctuation and splitting some of the longer sections of text into more manageable paragraphs. This is not a scholarly or exact edition, for in order to provide that, someone would have to translate the work anew from the original Latin. This book, instead, is an attempt to make the 18th century translation as accessible as possible. I have included in this edition my coloured versions of the woodcuts. Though some of the original printed books had hand-coloured woodcuts, these were quite crudely executed, and I have instead based my colouring for this edition on the more subtle colouring found in the later manuscripts.

Limited edition of 100 copies, of which 75 are for sale. 119 pages. 21 coloured illustrations. A5 Hardbound.

Sorry, the edition is now sold out.
