After studying at See also:Gottingen (1826–1829) under K. O. Willer and Ludolf Dissen, and bolding several eduuttional appointments, in 1849 he succeeded G. F. See also:Grotefend as director of the See also:Lyceum at See also:Hanover, a See also:post which.he filled with See also:great success for See also:thirty years. He died on the 25th of See also:September 2881. His most important See also:work is De Graecae Linguae Dialectis (1839-1843, new ed. by Meister, 1882-1889), which, although unfortunately incomplete, dealing only with Aeolic and Doric, and in some respects superseded by See also:modern See also:research, will always remain a See also:standard See also:treatise on the subject. He also published Bucalicorum Graecorum Reliquiae (1855–1859); studies on the dialects of See also:Homer and the See also:Greek lyrists; on See also:Aeschylus; and some excellent school-books. A See also:volume of his See also:minor See also:works (ed. Haberlin) was published in 1891, which also contains a See also:complete See also:list of his writings.
