It is situated on the right See also:bank of the See also:Gogra. In the See also:present See also:day the old city has almost entirely disappeared, and its site is marked only by a heap of ruins; but in remote antiquity Ajodhya was one of the largest and most magnificent of See also:Indian cities. , It is said to have covered an See also:area of 96 m., and was the capital of the See also:kingdom of Kosala, the See also:court of the See also:great See also:king Dasaratha, the fifty-See also:sixth monarch of the See also:Solar See also:line in descent from See also:Raja See also:Mann. The opening chapters of the Ramayana recount the magnificence of the city, the glories of the monarch and the virtues, See also:wealth and See also:loyalty of his See also:people.
