Its importance as a manufacturing centre is due to its location in the natural See also:gas region. In 1905 Anderson ranked first among the cities of the See also:state in the manufacture of See also:carriage and See also:wagon material, and See also:iron and See also:steel. Among its many other manufactures are See also:glass and glass-See also:ware, See also:paper, strawboards, crockery and tiles. In 1905 the See also:total factory product was valued at $8,314,760. There is a See also:good public library; much See also:attention has been devoted to public improvements; and the See also:water See also:works and the electric See also:lighting See also:plants are owned and operated by the city. In connexion with the water works there is a good filtration plant. First settled about 1822, Anderson was incorporated in 1865.
