ANTIPHILUS , a See also:

Greek painter, of the See also:age of See also:Alexander. He worked for See also:Philip of Macedon and See also:Ptolemy I. of See also:Egypt. Thus he was a contemporary of See also:Apelles, whose See also:rival he is said to have been, but he seems to have worked in quite another See also:style. See also:Quintilian speaks of his facility: the descriptions of his See also:works which have come down to us show that he excelled in See also:light and shade, in genre representations, and in See also:caricature. See See also:Brunn, Geschichte der griechischen Kiinstler, ii.. p. 249.
