The village is memorable for an See also:action which took See also:place on the 28th of See also:November 1803 between the British See also:army, commanded by See also:Major-See also:General See also:Wellesley (afterwards See also:duke of See also:Wellington), and the Mahrattas• under Sindhia and the See also:raja of See also:Berar, in which the latter were defeated with See also:great loss. A See also:medal struck in See also:England in 1851 commemorates the victory.
