ARISUGAWA , the name of one of the royal families of See also:

Japan, going back to the seventh son of the See also:mikado Go-Yozei (d. 1638). After the revolution of 1868, when the mikado See also:Mutsu-hito was restored, his See also:uncle, See also:Prince Taruhito Arisugawa (1835–1895), became See also:commander-in-See also:chief, and in 1875 See also:president of the See also:senate. After his suppression of the Satsuma See also:rebellion he was made a See also:field-See also:marshal, and he was chief of the See also:staff in the See also:war with See also:China (1894–95). His younger See also:brother, Prince Takehito Arisugawa (b. 1862), was from 1879 to 1882 in the See also:British See also:navy, serving in the Channel See also:Squadron, and studied at the See also:Naval See also:College, See also:Greenwich. In the Chino-See also:Japanese War of 1894–95 he was in command of a cruiser, and subsequently became See also:admiral-See also:superintendent at See also:Yokosuka. Prince Arisugawa represented Japan in See also:England together with See also:Marquis See also:Ito at the See also:Diamond See also:Jubilee (1897), and in 19o5 was again received there as the See also:king's See also:guest.
