BERGUES , a See also:

town of See also:northern See also:France, in the See also:department of See also:Nord, at the junction of the See also:canal of the Colme with canals to See also:Dunkirk and See also:Furnes (in See also:Belgium), 5 M. S.S.E. of Dunkirk by See also:rail. Pop. (1906) 44.99. The town has a See also:belfry, the finest in See also:French See also:Flanders, dating from the See also:middle of the 16th See also:century and restored in the 19th century. The See also:church of St See also:Martin is a See also:brick See also:building of the 17th century in the See also:Gothic See also:style with a See also:modern See also:facade. The town See also:hall, dating from the latter See also:half of the 19th century, contains a municipal library and an interesting collection of pictures. The See also:industries of the town include See also:brewing and malting, and the manufacture of brushes and oil.
