BERTINORO , a :See also:town and episcopal see of See also:Emilia, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of Forli, 8 m. S.E. See also:direct of Forli and 51 m. N. of the station of See also:Forlimpopoli, and 800 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (19o1) town, 3753; See also:commune, 7786. The town commands a See also:fine view to the See also:north over the See also:plain of Emilia and the See also:lower course of the Po, itself lying on the foothills of the See also:Apennines. It appears to have been first fortified by See also:Frederick See also:Barbarossa, and its See also:castle stood frequent sieges in the See also:middle ages. See also:Polenta, 22 M. to the See also:south of it, was the birthplace of Francesca da See also:Rimini. The castle is almost entirely ruined, but the See also: (Bologna, 1891), I seq. (T.
