BLANKENBERGHE , a seaside watering-See also:

place on the See also:North See also:Sea in the See also:province of See also:West See also:Flanders, See also:Belgium, 12 M. N.E. of See also:Ostend, and about 9 M. N.W. of See also:Bruges, with which it is connected by railway. It is more bracing than Ostend, and has a See also:fine See also:parade over a mile in length. During the See also:season, which extends from See also:June to See also:September, it receives a large number of visitors, probably over 6o,000 altogether, from See also:Germany as well as from Belgium. There is a small fishing See also:port as well as a considerable fishing-See also:fleet. Two See also:miles north of this place along the See also:dunes is Zeebrugge, the point at which the new See also:ship-See also:canal from Bruges enters the North Sea. Fixed See also:population (19o4) 5925.
