BLANKENBURG . (1) A See also:town and See also:health resort of See also:Germany, in the duchy of See also:Brunswick, at the N. See also:foot of the Harz Mountains, 12 M. by See also:rail S.W. from See also:Halberstadt. Pop. (1901) 10,173. It has been in large See also:part rebuilt since a See also:fire in 1836, and possesses a See also:castle, with various collections, a museum of antiquities, an old town See also:hail and churches. There are See also:pine-See also:needle See also:baths and a See also:hospital for See also:nervous diseases. Gardening is a speciality. In the vicinity is a cliff or See also:ridge of See also:rock called Teufelsmauer (See also:Devil's See also:wall), from which See also:fine views are obtained across the See also:plain and into the deep See also:gorges of the Harz Mountains.
(2) Another BLANKENBURG, also a health-resort, is situated in Schwarzburg-See also:Rudolstadt, Thuringia, at the confluence of the See also:rivers Rinne and Schwarza, and at the entrance of the Schwarzatal.
