CHAMIER, See also:FREDERICK (1796–1870) , See also:English novelist, was the son of an Anglo-See also:Indian See also:official. In 1809 he entered the See also:navy, and was in active service until 1827. He retired in 1833, and was promoted to be See also:captain in 1856. On his retirement he settled near See also:Waltham See also:Abbey, and wrote several nautical novels on the lines popularized by See also:Marryat, that had considerable success. These were The See also:Life of a Sailor (1832), See also:Ben See also:Brace (1836), The See also:Arethusa (1837), See also:Jack See also:Adams (1838), Tom See also:Bowling (1841) and Jack See also:Malcolm's See also:Log (1846). He wrote a number of otherbooks, and edited and brought down to 1827 See also:James's See also:Naval See also:History (1837).
