After travelling in See also:Germany and See also:Poland (where he learnt See also:Polish), he began the study of See also:law at See also:Leiden, but he soon turned his See also:attention to See also:history and See also:geography, which were then taught there by See also:Joseph See also:Scaliger. After campaigning in Bohemia and See also:Hungary, suffering imprisonment, and travelling in See also:England, See also:Scotland and See also:France, he finally settled in See also:Holland, where (after 1616) he received a See also:regular See also:pension from Leiden See also:Academy. In 1611 he began to publish his See also:works. He died at Leiden in 1623. His See also:principal writings are: Germania Antiqua (1616), Siciliae Antiquae libri duo, See also:Sardinia et See also:Corsica Antiqua (1619), and the See also:posthumous Italia Antiqua (1624) and Introductio in Universam Geographiam (1629).
