COMMONWEALTH , a See also:

term generally synonymous with commonweal, i.e. public welfare, but more particularly signifying a See also:form of See also:government in which the See also:general public have a See also:direct See also:voice. " The Commonwealth " is used in a See also:special sense to denote the See also:period in See also:English See also:history between the See also:execution of See also:Charles I. in 1649 and the Restoration in 166o. Commonwealth is also the See also:official designation in See also:America of the states of See also:Massachusetts, See also:Pennsylvania, See also:Virginia and See also:Kentucky. The See also:Common-See also:wealth of See also:Australia is the See also:title of the federation of Australian colonies carried out in 1900.
