CORRIB, LOUGH , a See also:lake of western See also:Ireland, in the counties See also:Galway and See also:Mayo. It lies N.W. and S.E., and is 27 M. See also:long, including a long projecting See also:arm at the See also:north-See also:west. The extreme breadth is 7 m., but the outline is extremely irregular, and the lough narrows near the centre to a few See also:hundred yards. Lough Corrib is very shallow, hardly exceeding 30 ft. in See also:depth at any point, and it is covered with islands, of which there are some 300. It lies 29 ft. above See also:sea-level, and drains by the See also:short See also:river Corrib to Galway See also:Bay. The large Lough See also:Mask lies to its north and is connected with it by a partly subterranean channel. The scenery is pleasant, but the shores are See also:low, except at the north-west, where the See also:wild foothills of Joyce's See also:Country rise.
