ERSKINE, See also:RALPH (1685-1752) , Scottish divine, See also:brother of Ebenezer Erskine (q.v.), was See also:born on the 18th of See also:March 1685. After studying at the university of See also:Edinburgh, he was in 1711 ordained assistant See also:minister at See also:Dunfermline. He homologated the protests which his brother laid on the table of the See also:assembly after being rebuked for his See also:synod See also:sermon, but he did not formally withdraw from the See also:establishment till 1737. He was also See also:present, though not as a member, at the first See also:meeting of the See also:associate See also:presbytery. When the severance took See also:place on See also:account of the See also:oath administered to burgesses, he adhered, along with his brother, to the burgher See also:section. He died after a See also:short illness on the 6th of See also:November 1752. His See also:works consist of sermons, poetical paraphrases and See also:gospel sonnets. The Gospel Sonnets have frequently appeared separately. His See also:Life and See also:Diary, edited by the Rev. D. See also:Fraser, was published in 1842.
