town of See also:south-western See also:France, See also:capital of an See also:arrondissement in the See also:department of See also:Tarn, on the right See also:bank of the Tarn, 15 M. W. of See also:Albi on the railway from that See also:city to See also:Toulouse. Pop. (1906) town, 5388; See also:commune, 7535. The churches of St See also:Michel and St See also:Pierre, both dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, have little architectural importance. There are some interesting houses, one of which, the Maison Yversen, of the See also:Renaissance, is remarkable for the See also:rich See also:carving of its doors. The public institutions include the sub-prefecture, a tribunal of first instance, and a communal See also:college. Its See also:industries include the manufacture of See also:lime and wooden shoes, while See also:dyeing, See also:wood-sawing and See also:flour-milling are also carried cn; it has a consider-able See also:trade in See also:grain, flour, vegetables, dried plams, See also:anise, See also:coriander, &c,, and in See also:wine, the See also:white and red wines of the arrondissement having a high reputation.
