From 1831 until his See also:death on the 2nd of See also:June 1855, he was See also:dean of Christ Church. As See also:curator of the Bodleian and See also:principal delegate of the University See also:Press he was instrumental in securing the co-operation of distinguished See also:European scholars as collators, notably See also:Bekker and See also:Dindorf. Among his numerous contributions to Greek literature may be mentioned, See also:Hephaestion's Encheiridion (1810); Poetae Graeci minores (1814–182o); See also:Stobaeus' Florilegium (1822); See also:Herodotus, with variorum notes (1824); Suidas' See also:Lexicon (1834); Etymologicon magnum (1848)4 See also:Eusebius's Praeparatio (1843) and Demonstratio. evangelica (1852). In 1856 the Gaisford prizes, for Greek See also:composition, were founded at Oxford to perpetuate his memory.
