HEYSHAM , a seaport in the See also:

Lancaster See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Lancashire, See also:England, on the See also:south See also:shore of See also:Morecambe See also:Bay, served by the Midland railway. Pop. (1901) 3381. Under See also:powers obtained from See also:parliament in 1896, the Midland Railway See also:Company constructed, and opened in 1904, a See also:harbour, enclosed by breakwaters, for the development of See also:traffic with See also:Belfast and other Irish ports, a daily passenger-service of the first class being established to Belfast. The ,harbour has a See also:depth at See also:low See also:tide of 17 ft., and extensive See also:accommodation for live-stock and goods of all kinds is provided. Heysham is in some favour as a watering-See also:place. The See also:church of St See also:Peter is mainly See also:Norman, and has fragments of even earlier date. Ruins of a very See also:ancient See also:oratory stand near it. This was dedicated to St See also:Patrick, and is traditionally said to have been erected as a place of See also:prayer for those at See also:sea.
