It iS beautifully situated in the upper See also:part of the valley of the Wharfe, and owing to the See also:fine scenery of the neighbourhood, and to the bracing See also:air of the high moorlands above the valley, has become a favourite See also:health resort. Here and at See also:Ben Rhydding, 1 m. E., are several hydropathic establishments. The See also:church of All See also:Saints is in the See also:main Decorated, largely restored in 186o. Three See also:ancient sculptured crosses are preserved in the See also:churchyard. The institutions include a museum of See also:local antiquities, a See also:grammar school, the See also:Siemens Convalescent See also:Home and the Ilkley See also:Bath Charitable Institution. The fine remains of See also:Bolton See also:Abbey See also:lie in the Wharfe valley, 5 M. above Ilkley. Ilkley has been identified with the Olicana of See also:Ptolemy, one of the towns of the See also:British tribe of the See also:Brigantes. There was a See also:Roman fort near the See also:present church of All Saints, and the site has yielded See also:inscriptions and other small remains.
