INISFAIL , a poetical name for See also:

Ireland. It is derived from Faul or Lia fail, the celebrated See also:stone, identified in Irish See also:legend with the stone on which the See also:patriarch See also:Jacob slept when he dreamed of the heavenly See also:ladder. The Lia-fail was supposed to have been brought to Ireland by the Dedannans and set up at See also:Tara as the " inauguration stone " of the Irish See also:kings; it was subsequently removed to See also:Scone where it became the See also:coronation stone of the Scottish kings, until it was taken by See also:James VI. of See also:Scotland to See also:Westminster and placed under the coronation See also:chair in the See also:Abbey, where it has since remained. Inisfail was thus the See also:island of the Fail, the island whose monarchs were crowned at Tara on the sacred inauguration stone.
