On See also:Sunday the 18th of See also:March 1582, as the prince came out of his dining-See also:room Jauregui offered him a See also:petition, and William had no sooner taken it into his See also:hand than Jauregui fired a See also:pistol at his See also:head. The See also:ball pierced the See also:neck below the right See also:ear and passed out at the See also:left See also:jaw-See also:bone; but William ultimately recovered. The See also:assassin was killed on the spot.
